Above is a photograph that I took at the Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees game in Yankee Stadium in 1968.  The game is mentioned in the Mickey Mantle story below. Included in the photograph is evidence of one of many Baltimore Orioles--Wake Forest Demon Deacons historical connections. As the Mickey Mantle story relates, the Yankees defeated the Orioles of Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, and Boog Powell 2-1 on July 5, 1968.  Orioles Coach Rae Wilson Scarborough (please see the insert from the photo on the left)—he later changed his first name to ‘Ray’—was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame in 1976. On the field at Yankee Stadium, Ray is standing next to baseball immortal, Mickey Mantle.  Scarborough, who was born in 1917, died on July 1, 1982 in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Over ten seasons with the Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers, Ray compiled an 80-85 record with a 4.13 earned run average.  In 1948, Ray’s best year, he logged a 15-8 record with the Washington Senators. On the right is Ray Scarborough's 1950 Bowman Gum Card.
