The Winter Pond

In the swirling mists of winter
the pond shimmers with silver frost.
The Sprites of the Faery Realm
skate whimsically across.
A Squirrel balances precariously
upon the frozen waters edge,
and whispers to the hawk
perched in the Oak tree overhead.
"Do you think that the Maiden
will return to us in Spring,
to melt the ice, stop the snows
and the beautiful flowers bring?"
"Fear not little friend"
says the wise Hawk in reply,
"I have flown the winds of time
for all the days gone by."
The Goddess will return to us
to melt the fallen snow.
The Earth shall reawaken
and all that sleeps will grow.

A silver moonbeam leaps from the water
to alight on a nearby rock.
Tis Lilliana, the Water Nymph,
who looks at the Squirrel in shock.
"Silly Squirrel" says she,
"You are but a babe in these woods.
There seems to be many a thing
that you've misunderstood.
The Mother never leaves us,
even while in the World of Dreams.
She simply rests while pondering
the flowers new color schemes."

"Right you are" says the turtle,
as he slowly saunters nigh.
"The lady is always with us,
sending blessings from on high.
She rides the silver moon
and beseeches Father Sun,
to give us warmth in winter
till his time of reign is done.
Then again will she awaken
to grant us all her charms;
and bring the kiss of Springtime,
as she holds us in her arms."

My Winter Pond!
