Children: Jeffrey (17), Stephen (15), Jennifer (13), Bethany (11), Timothy
(8) and Kathryn (3)
After three semesters at BYU, I spent 1979-1981 on a LDS Church mission
to South Africa. I returned to BYU where I almost became a professional
student, earning my BS (1984), MS (1985) and PhD (1990), all in Electrical
Engineering. Along the way, I met and married Lisa Hales in 1988, and
we have been enjoying life together for the last 18 years.
I joined the faculty in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department
at Utah State university in 1989, and have been involved in both interesting
research projects and educating students since then. I am currently the
graduate director (over the graduate program) in the department, and
am involved in research in digital image processing in the areas of digital
image and video compression and 3D image processing using LIDAR systems.
It has been (and continues to be) a lot of fun.
While here in Logan, we have added six children to our family, three
boys and three girls. Each one is sure a unique individual, with our
oldest (Jeff) going to college next year, and our youngest (Kathryn)
the center of the universe in our family. We think Logan is a great place
to raise our family, but I still feel that Los Alamos was a great place
to grow up.
Like many of you in the class, I have grown a bit older, a little heavier,
and completely gray!
