Alan ChurchAfter graduating from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque with a degree in Chemistry, I moved to Lakewood, Colorado, and worked at the Department of Energy’s Rocky Flats Plant for almost 23 years. I managed environmental and waste management programs up until the site was closed and demolished in 2005. I returned to Los Alamos two years ago and am now working in the Environmental Protection Division at the Lab. Moving back to Los Alamos has been interesting. Although a lot has changed in 30 years, in some ways, a lot hasn't. Having been away for so many years has allowed me to re-discover and appreciate the nuances of this community and New Mexico in general. When I’m not at work, I’m either running, swimming, or more likely, cycling. Only a few years ago I began to cycle in earnest. Last summer I was fortunate enough to cycle through the Tuscany region of Italy and this summer I’ll be riding through the Provence region of France and into the Maritime Alps. My only regret is not discovering this rush earlier in life! Life's good these days ... and it keeps getting better!. |
