After LAHS I went to UC San Diego and studied economics. While at UCSD
I played on the water polo team--mostly watching from the bench. I stayed
in San Diego for three years after graduating before moving to Berkeley
to get my MBA at UC Berkeley. (Moving from my house a block from the
beach in Del Mar to a run down rent-controlled apartment in Berkeley
took some time to get used to). While at Cal I decided to major in real
estate and have been in the real estate business ever since.
I currently work in the San Francisco office of UBS Realty Investors,
an investment advisor for institutional investors, primarily pension
funds. After witnessing the dot com bust here in the Bay Area, it was
nice to have the job stability of working for a Swiss bank.
I met my wife Gudrun while playing on the same coed ultimate frisbee
team. (Our team was horrible, but it has produced four marriages.) We
have two great kids, Peter (almost 7) and Alice (just turned 5).
We love to travel as a family. We went to Australia last winter, Hawaii
this summer and have plans to go to Paris and London next spring.
My parents moved from Los Alamos to Randall, Iowa in 1982 when my dad
took a position at Iowa State. They are very happy there, as they
are both from the Midwest.
