Chris GlascockSpouse/partner: Mary Children: Raquel (step-daughter, 30) I apologize for sending this so late. I am in the process of rebuilding my computer including all old emails and addresses etc. This has been a long process and has created a huge number of headaches and delays. I regrettably won't be able to attend the reunion as I will be traveling starting this Thursday. I am married to a wonderful person, Mary, and I have a step-daughter Raquel, who is now 30 and getting married next year. Mary is in financial planning at one the most succesful offices in the nation for Ameriprise, formerly American Express Financial Advisors. We live in Broomfield, CO, in a nice golf course community, although we don't golf. After high school, I went to UC Berkeley, where I got a degree in Biochemistry. After that I went to the PhD program in Biochemistry at UC Davis where I studied Plant Pathology, specifically certain plant viruses. After I left that program, I went to work at a local plant biotechnology company, Calgene. They were developing the Flavor Savr tomato, although I didn't work on that program. I was still focused on plant pathology and my team was able to transfer certain genes into plants that protected them from some fungal pathogens. After awhile, the contract I was on was being terminated and I had the option of working with the sponsor back in Raleigh, NC. However, I thought with family back in the rockies and having taken a lot of vacation time in the rockies, that it might be possible to work in the rockies. I ended up at Somatogen, in Boulder, CO, in 1992 and was working on recombinant hemoglobin as a blood substitute. We got bought out but ran into problems in clinical trials and the purchaser shut us down. Before that happened, I was able to live and work in Vienna, Austria, for awhile. A little over 3 years ago, I ended up at Myogen, a cardiovascular drug developer, where I was doing various research projects. Last November we were purchased by Gilead based in Foster City, CA. Gilead is one of the most succesful biotech companies in the United States. A month ago we just got approval for one of our drugs by the FDA. I am continuing my research into developing various cardiovascular and hypertension drugs. Since being in Boulder, I have taken up rock climbing, ice climbing, and have climbed all of the 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado and then some. I have climbed Mt Ranier in Washington and am looking forward to climbing around the world. I took up back-country telemark skiing and Mary and I routinely do 3 or 4 backcountry huts a year plus many other trips to the mountains. I have been active in mountain biking, road cycling, backpacking, fly-fishing, scuba, and snorkeling. We also like to relax on trips to the Carribean and elsewhere. There's never enough time to relax--we are trying to retire as soon as possible. I hope everyone is doing well in life and regret I won't be able to visit in person! |
