Renee (Martinez) RoybalSpouse/partner: Leon Children: Sonja (19) and Desiree (15 years) Hello class of 1977. I had been working at LANL up to 1999. Working 20 years as a computer tech. Then I became ill out of the blue. I was hit by a viral infection that affected my heart. My electrical system in my heart was out of sort causing me to have sudden death attacks. I was in and out of the hospitals ALOT and survived many death experiences. It was a very dramatic nightmare, even when I look back. Can't even express with words. Well, three implanted defibrillators/pacers later gave me three years until my heart gave out. I was taken to UCLA medical center in 2002 and waited seven months for a heart transplant. On October 2, 2002, I received the GIFT OF LIFE! Many prayers were answered and I am very blessed to be alive today. I enjoy and give thanks for every day that my creator has given me and frankly I just enjoy life. I have been traveling a lot and seeing the world. I spend it with family and friends. Being in good health and never having family heart disease, the Lord had a plan for me. Just out of the blue, unknown to the doctors … it just happened. Well, I became an advocate for Womenheart. I share my experience to many and tell women that Heart Disease is the number one killer of women today; but through early detection, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment, they can live with heart disease--they too can survive. I see my doctors in LA and here in NM to keep me in tune and all has been good. Praise the Lord! I wish all of you good health and will miss you this 30 year reunion. I'll be on a cruise off in the Caribbean. Ha ha, beat that!! Better than hanging out in ole Los Alamos. Just kidding!! |
