Christine (Morris) RandSpouse/partner: Greg After high school I started college at UNM. I college-hopped for about 5 years, from UNM, to University of Northern Iowa, and finished at University of Hawaii at Manoa receiving a BA in anthropology. Not exactly a useful degree, but really interesting. I also went to school to be a medical assistant, which did lead to a useful degree and a career. In the process I met my husband-to-be, Greg Rand (yes, Amy’s brother) and got married. We did the Navy life (submarines for him) for about 4 years and then moved to Texas for 6 years where I was a stay-at-home mom with our two kids. In 1990 we realized that we missed New Mexico and were not fond of the hot Texas summers. Greg got a job at the Lab and we moved back to Los Alamos. I really enjoy being back here. The kids went to school and graduated from LAHS. We were around both of our families, which is good and bad but overall a good thing. I started working for medical clinics in town and then started my own medical transcription business in 1994. In 2003 I started working at LANL at Occupational Medicine part-time and continued working my home business the other part-time. I really enjoy both jobs. Hobbies include quilting, gardening, and hiking. I am also the bass drummer in a Celtic pipe and drum band. Now, THAT is fun (concert in Los Alamos, June 29, noon, at the Lodge). While I love my work, I do enjoy having a busy extra-curricular schedule. Oh, and Greg and I have been taking a yoga class twice a week for 1 1/2 years. It is our twice-a-week (cheap) date but we both seem to enjoy and benefit from this. Greg and I have been married for 27 years. Our two kids are doing great. Alex is in a PhD program in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon in applied mathematics (yeah, like I can take any credit for that). Karen just graduated from Eastern New Mexico with a degree in graphic design and has a job! (Yeah, like I know where that came from also.) Isn’t biology mysterious? Now we are empty nesters and seem to be adjusting well--leaving the bathroom door open, running around the house naked (so we tell our children, to keep the mystery alive), and eating in front of the TV. No pets, so we just pick up and travel when we want or have enough vacation accrued--looking for retirement possibilities. I am really looking forward to the reunion and hope to see everyone there. |
