Discount Septic Pumping Program - Once again, the Lake Boon Association is sponsoring our twice-yearly discount septic pumping program.  The program will take place the last two weeks of June, and discounts of up to 15% are available through the generosity of Casaceli Trucking if more than 9 households sign up.

In the 8 years since its inception, over 200 tanks have been pumped at the discount price, saving money for individual homeowners while preserving property values and helping reduce weed growth in the lake.  The more frequently a system is pumped (recommendation is every 1 - 2 years depending on family size), the longer it will last and work well.

The LBA sponsors this program spring and fall each year, and so far Rich Casaceli continues to give us a lower price than other area companies for an excellent job! Please spread the word to your neighbors on Lake Boon so we can continue to do everything we can to clean up the lake and keep our septic systems running well.

To register by the deadline of May 22nd, please email Brenda Mascari, Brenda@edmascari.com  or call Dave Siewierski at 978-562-2203. The program is open to anyone living within the Lake Boon watershed or within a mile of the lake.

Red Sox Green Team Day of Service - 8/23

This year, the LBA is pleased to offer a unique volunteer opportunity to the Lake Boon community.  On Sunday, August 23rd, the Boston Red Sox host the New York Yankees at 1:35 in the afternoon.  Join us in volunteering at Fenway Park during the game, serving on the “Green Team.”

The Red Sox started the Green Team last year in an effort to reduce the amount of recyclables being discarded at Fenway.  At each home game, 30 to 80 Green Team volunteers patrol the park, collecting plastic bottles, cups and trays in special receptacles. Green Team members also educate fans about the many environmental initiatives being undertaken by the Red Sox.

Participation is open to Boonies age 14 and up, and volunteers 14-18 must serve with a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.  Green Team members need to be at Fenway an hour before the game for orientation.  Admission is free, and the Sox provide a lunch voucher to all participants.  Green Team duties end after the 7th inning, at which time we’ll be free to watch the game from one of the standing-room areas in the park.

We can take up to 80 volunteers, so rally your friends and neighbors for a fun day at Fenway with the LBA.  Sign up with LBA Secretary Kevin Hunt at the annual meeting or by email at kevinc.hunt@gmail.com.  Please put “LBA Green Team” in the subject of your email.

Bryozoa in Lake Boon
Bryozoa or moss animals look like a cross between coral and jellyfish. The fresh water type in Lake Boon have been here for years but seem to be more prominent this year. Some colonies have been seen the size of basketballs! They typically attach to underwater sticks and are apparently harmless. They may even filter the water and clarify it. They are said to dissipate in cold water in the fall. For more info see

As you may know, Lake Boon resident, Justin Graceffa, fell from a balcony August 5th, 2007 at school trying to get into his locked apartment and is now paralyzed from the neck down. Our most sincere wishes for recovery go out to Justin and his family.

The Graceffas have set up benefit funds for Justin. One is "Justin's Recovery" fund through the DCU Federal Credit Union and the other is "Justin Graceffa's Recovery" fund through Citizens Bank where donations can be made.

"He needs a wheelchair, he needs a wheelchair van, and we’re going to have to make modifications (to our home)," said his mother.

People interested in making donations to the fund can send checks to the

DCU Federal Credit Union on 100 Powdermill Road in Acton.
