General
This
is a search engine for professional biographies. Many of the listings
come right off a company or institutional web site. There is no charge
to search this resource nor to list your profile. Search on a company
name and find contacts for your prospect.
Zoom
Info (formerly Eliyon) is a business search engine that delivers in-depth
profiles on 24 million business people and 2 million companies.
Zaba
is a meta search engine with a twist. Enter the subject's name and
the search engine finds many possbile hits, showing age, address and
phone number for each. This could be a good way to find possible family
members. Click on a name, and you're taken to a page that lists several
of the most popular search engines. Select an engine, and the name
will be submitted.
Donors
State Political
Donors
Money
in state politics plays a pivotal role in shaping public policy
in individual states and across the nation. The nonpartisan Institute
on Money in State Politics tracks contributions in all 50 states
and makes this data easily searchable online.
AKA
Tray.com. Go here to find out who gave what to which candidates
when. There are several useful indexes including donor name, candidate
name, and donor zip code.
Another
window into the FEC's data. Search for gifts over $200 made by individuals.
Drill down to see who else has given to the same recipient. A somewhat
less cluttered approach than found at FECInfo (aka Tray.com). Additionally,
it does a number of things for you: it groups contributions under
aliases used by the donor and by recipients and totals donations
of the same kind. Includes an excellent advanced search feature
that allows you to limit your search by city, state or zip.
The
Center for Responsive Politics (OpenSecrets.org) is a non-partisan,
non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C. that tracks
money in politics, and its effect on elections and public policy.
Another
entrant into the increasingly crowded group of political finance
analysis tools. This one has a political agenda of demonstrating
graphically how most political influence (in the form of campaign
donations) comes from the wealthy white portions of America. Let's
give those people a chance to do something good with their money.
Of interest is the list
of zip codes from which the most contributions came.
This is
Waltman's database
of donors gleaned from the donor lists on published annual reports.
You can buy an unlimited subscription for $75/month or use the
prepaid option starting at $70 for 25 searches.
This claims
to be (and probably is) the largest list of philanthropic donors.
Like the Donor Series, it is compiled from annual reports, however
it exclusively searches reports that have been posted on the Internet.
The minimum price is $25 for 250 searches. The cost per record
goes down as the number goes up.
Stephen
Morse is interested in genealogy. He has built this extension of a
birthday search tool at BirthDatabase.com.
Here is Steve's main website.
If
you don't have a Dialog subscription, this site allows you to search
Dialog's biographical references (Marquis' Who's Who and Bowkers).
If you find the person you're looking for, it'll cost you about
$5 to get the bio.
Physician
Select is compiled and published by the American Medical Association
as a reference source of demographic and professional information
on individual physicians in the United States.
A database
of licensed physicians. Not all states are covered, but for those
that are, it's a nice supplement to the AMA Physician Select.
This
site returns the result of an unscientific (as far as I can see) survey
of salaries in the medical field -- not just doctors. You can limit
your search by region and specialty.
A site
with a more general look at physician salaries. Categorizes salaries
into average, low, and high for the most common areas of medical practice.
The
venerable attorney directory's home on the Internet. An excellent
resource. Good biographical information.
A service
of West's Legal Directory. Provides an easy-to-use template for
searching biographical profiles of lawyers and law firms.
Other Professions
The Federal
Judges Biographical Database contains the service record and biographical
information for all judges who have served on the U.S. District Courts,
U.S. Circuit Courts, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the Supreme Court
since 1789.
Find current
employement, previous employement, and approved registration for National
Association of Securities Dealers members. You have to know the firm
name, as well as first and last names to search for a person. Click
on "Perform Online Search" button from the first page. The
next page is the gateway to the search form. It also has a glossary
of business and secruities terms.
Is
your prospect a commodity trader? This search engine allows you
to search for National Futures Association members by name or by
firm name. Also includes a useful glossary of terms relating to
the futures market.
Another
directory of stock brokers, investment advisors, financial planners
and brokerage firms. Brokers use this site to market their services.
ProFile
on the Web is a search engine for locating architecture firms and
businesses in the United States. It is derived from the complete ProFile
database and ProFile, the Architects Sourcebook, published by CMD
and The American Institute of Architects (AIA).
A very nice site on salaries.
Shows regional differences in many different job categories.
Quick search
tool to find compensation of insiders - top officers only - not directors.
Can also search by company name
Millions
of salary data - all associated with real positions
Government Employee Pay
You may
not think of a government career as a get rich quick scheme, and it's
not, but high ranking officers and civilian personnel are well compensated.
USA Today's compilation
of salaries for professional athletes
This site for aviation
enthusiasts has several great search engines. In the owner search
database, enter the owners name as "last first" without
a comma. In the multiple field registration search you can narrow
your search by several parameters. Scroll down the index page and
you'll find a certified pilots database. Not comprehensive, unfortunately,
but not bad.
If you cn't find the
airplane owner you're looking for in Landings, try the FAA's site.
The registered aircraft database (where you find owners) is updated
monthly from FAA sources. Search using the same rules as Landings
Based on the Coast
Guard registry of boats. Search by owner name, boat name, registered
address, or builder. Must pay about $8 to download details.
The
official government site allows you to search for the names
of inventors or "assignee" (i.e. patent owner).
