The Basic Premise and Beginnings of Laramie!

This is a very brief look at the premise and beginning storyline of the great tv western, Laramie. For more detailed information on the characters, including their history, see the Who's Who section. Basically, the storyline is that ex-gunfighter, turned drifter "Jess Harper" arrives in Laramie, Wyoming in search of a one-time partner who cheated him from some money. Jess has one of those colorful pasts that he never seems to shake, with plenty of questionable pals from yesteryear ready to show up and test the waters at any time.

Meanwhile, "Slim Sherman" and his younger brother "Andy" work hard to make a living at the Sherman Ranch and Relay Station. Slim feels responsible to ensure that Andy is raised properly, and with the help of long time family friend "Jonesy", seeks to shelter Andy from the bad guys, like Jess!

Slim and Jess quickly get beyond their first opinions, and become friends and eventually partners. The stories that would evolve over the next few years often would focus on Jess' struggle to overcome the battles of the past, combined with Slim's struggle to let go of rigidity on occasion. Together, with Andy and Jonesy, and later on with the orphaned "Mike" and widowed "Miss Daisy", they were a familiy.
