The images that appear here, I have returned to many times.  I did not want them to be lost due to the necessary routine pruning of photo pages.  They seem to me to have a quality about them that is ever green.

Taken 11/22/01.  Hard to believe this is a color photo, the whole scene is mostly in grays, except for the halter.  The little horse seems neglected, the circumstances of his life are not known.  While obviously there is shyness, there is curiosity too, and maybe the hope of companionship.  We see sometimes those who must live on the darker side of life for no reason at all, and we wonder about it -- will some good thing happen, just to bring a little balance?

Horse In Gray

Taken 6/14/02.  Our good old American Robin is much ignored because it is so obvious and bold, even a cultural cliche of Spring.  The Robin is involved with its own affairs, though, and our perceptions, or lack of them, do not have a lot of interest.  I make an effort to see the Robin as it is, not as I think it is.  For this shot, the Robin has made it easier, by taking a break from its haughty-seeming search for earthworms, and is climbing, a little clumsily, about in a tree, eating the newly ripening fruit.  I have noticed a lot of birds have not read in the bird guides about what they eat, and eat from what is available as they please.  For example, I have seen the House Sparrows repeatedly fly from their perches above the river and fly out to catch insects in the air.   No doubt the official insectivores would be miffed at the competition, if they thought about it much.

Robin In Tree

Taken 11/8/02.  Enjoying the moon, large and low on the horizon, and its round contrast to the rough angular building, I was happily taking photographs, when from the corner of my eye, I saw the plane shooting toward the scene.  By stepping back a pace or two, I adjusted the plane's relation to the building. and had time to take three images, of which this is the third.  Chances are, I won't see another opportunity for such a shot anytime soon.

Structure With Plane And Moon

Taken on 3/14/03, this a type of image I aim for, and usually miss, but fortune was with me that day.  All the zillions of swirling variables that make an image settled down and flowed together, and I was there to see it.  The photographer sometimes issues a wordless prayer when the moment is right.  Occasionally the prayer is answered...

     In Reflection

Taken July 25, 2003.  The business of ongoingness proceeds.  This male is a busy boy, but he wastes as little time as possible by stuffing as much nesting material as he can into his beak.  Not far away, an impatient spouse awaits.

House Sparrow With Grasses

Taken July 25, 2003.  (Shown elsewhere on this site, but I wanted it in this Gallery).  One fine afternoon, this male and I were sitting on a stone wall.  I noticed him as I finished shooting a photo, but he was too busy looking for food possibilities to pay me any attention.  He was looking here, there, and everywhere but in my direction, so I had time to set up the shot for a change.  I took one photo of him looking away from me, then he turned and noticed the big eye of the camera staring at him.  I don't think he was particularly pleased at the attention -- do you?
