Digital Paintings Three

I wanted to focus on creating abstract images with depth, but took a detour into "shadows-painting"when I got a Wacom drawing tablet in early September, 2008.  The tablet is a liberating tool for painting and graphics on the computer, though I often still use the mouse when it is more useful.

Though based on one of my digital photos, this image is mostly made
by extensive modification in one or another of the drawing programs.
I use.  You can see the effect of my continuing interest in image-depth.

This is a little different.  In working with an experimental version of this
image, I began thinking of all the scattered  and "coming apart" people
I know.  As time has passed over my lifetime, the more this has occurred.
Lack of focus, lack of attention -- it is reflected here.

Another "deep" abstract -- I cannot get away from them it seems.
And of course every lesson learned gets applied somewhere else.

This is the first "shadows-painting" -- meaning that the image is
created using a dark background and the image is "seen" by the
imagination in the subtle lights and darks of that background.
Each added stroke helps the imagination in its construction of
form and surface.  I have long been aware of this possibility, and
now am able to go beyond my charcoal experiments of the past.
Basically, the image is created entirely by the mind -- it makes
its own model.  Though this feels unfinished, it is all there is.

 Web03_B
This is a full-blown shadows painting, though it took
several versions from the basic drawing to get to this stage.

Web03_C
I really have little idea how this came to be,
aside from the fact it came from my imagination.
Web03_D
This is the last of the current set of shadows-paintings.
Software that came with the drawing tablet allows one to paint
as if over different textures.  I find texture possibilities fascinating.
Web03_E
Having previously delved into texture and the mysteries
of light and darkness, I was in a mood for a "graphical"
approach to image where there is strong delineation
and simplified shapes and bold interactions of color.
Web03_F
And back to "real" abstracts with this one -- a set of granite shapes.
Web03_G
A set of interrelating shapes of different kinds of metals.
