My Fee per client hour is $110.00. I offer a 20 dollar per hour discount to new clients who choose not to use insurance, do not require additional insurance paperwork from me and pay with cash, check or credit card at the beginning of the session.
If you want to use your insurance to help pay for therapy I will provide you with statements you can submit to them. There are pros and cons to using your health insurance to pay for psychotherapy. The primary drawback is that your therapy is less confidential and the insurance companies require a me to provide them with a mental health diagnosis for you which then goes onto your medical record which is shared with other insurance companies.
It is worth noting that insurance companies do not pay for couples therapy. They do not see it as 'medically necessary.' Some EAPs (Employee Assistance Programs) will pay for couples therapy but the number of sessions is limited, typically 5 sessions or less. Often other therapists, and sometimes insurance companies, will tell you that insurance pays for couples psychotherapy. The truth is, in order to get reimbursed by the insurance company, one of the individuals in counseling will get a legitimate mental health diagnosis put on their medical record, a record shared with other insurance companies.. The insurance company has to be billed under that individual's name with a code indicating individual psychotherapy. This creates a potential ethical dilemma for me as your psychotherapist. I'd bill for individual therapy and be doing couples therapy, a therapy that is not 'medically necessary' in the insurance companies eyes.
