I began playing music at age 4, when I started piano lessons. I was in choral groups and orchestra (violin) all through school. When I hit my first year of high school, I got my first real taste of live bass from the guys in the back of the music room wielding uprights! That same year I joined a friend's band as a keyboardist, but ended up picking up the bass and enjoying the hell out of it. I taught myself the basics by playing along with bands I liked (R.E.M., They Might be Giants), but ended up learning a lot more though playing and jamming with others. I have played all types of music, from punk to blues, from metal to hip-hop. I am currently playing awesome progressive rock with Mastermind, and old time fiddle tunes with various people.
