My ancestor John Wesley Ellis was born March 3, 1805 in Warren Co. N.C. (the son of Stephen ELLIS and Lucretia (Cresey) Sims ELLIS). John married his 2nd wife Miriam S. Norval(?) (b. abt. 1815, TN), and resided in Marshall Co. Miss. (which borders TN) in 1840's and 1850's, then in Carroll and Gibson Counties in 1860 and 1870. He was a Methodist preacher & farmer.
Child of John W. Ellis and 1st wife Cherrie was:
1. Thomas C. Ellis b. abt 1832 in TN married a Luesar? Unknown. They had a son named James Alfred Ellis, born abt. 1867. He was a Methodist minister & farmer in Gibson Co., TN.
Children of John W. ELLIS & 2nd wife Miriam S. Norval? were:
2. Josephine Ellis, b. June 10, 1838 in Marshall Co., Miss. married George Washington DONNELL and had several children (This is my line).
3. Wiley A. Ellis, born abt. 1840, Marshall Co., Miss. married Annie W.
Lanier (daughter of Charles Johns Lanier and Wilmoth C. Hutchings-Lanier-Herron)
on Dec. 19, 1865 in Carroll Co., TN. Wiley and Mary Ann "Annie" Lanier-ELLIS had two children: Wilmoth Ellis, b.abt. 1866 and Lee, born abt. 1869.
Wiley A. ELLIS was a physician, and graduated from Vanderbuilt. After
the death of his wife Mary Ann "Annie" Lanier, he relocated to Arkansas (after 1880) where he remarried
and had additional children (nothing more is known of his family in Arkansas at this time).
4. James W. Ellis, born abt. 1843 in Marshall Co., Miss.; died sometime shortly after the end of the Civil War, whereabouts unknown (no other info.).
5. Araminta "Mittie" Ellis born September 19, 1846 in Marshall Co., Miss., married Robert Lee WILSON on December 14, 1870 in Gibson Co., TN. They had seven children: Bobbie, John M., Warner, Joseph D., Lois, Tommye and Boyce.
6. Cherry-alie? Ellis was born abt. 1852 in Marshall Co., MS. She married Samuel C. Clark on August 15, 1870 in Gibson Co., TN. They had five children: Sadie, Sidney, Furn, Sam and Clyde.
7. Martha J. "Mattie" Ellis was born March 29, 1855 in Marshall Co., MS. She married Henry Lee Dickinson. They had five children: Lee, Margaret, Haskell, Louise and LeeRoy.
John W. Ellis is located on the 1840 Mississippi Census:

Mittie Wilson, age 23, white female (at home).
John W. Ellis died on July 6, 1877 in Gibson Co., TN. His will was recorded in Gibson Co., TN "Will Book G", pages 399-400, dated September Term 1877. He mentions children Cherry, Martha, Thomas, Willie, Josephine and Mittie, and son-in-law Robert Wilson. He also willed that he be buried close by the side of "Miream" at "Thou Meeting House" and that tombstones be put at my grave like unto her... and that the will to be read to children the next day after he was buried and then taken to Trenton to be recorded.
No doubt John's reference to "Thou Meeting House" (in his will) was the Shiloh Methodist Church located in Gibson Co., TN, where John W. ELLIS and his wife Mariam are buried.
