My Gunter ancestor information is rather sketchy at this point. I wish to include further information here as time permits.

I'll begin with my first known Gunter ancestor at this point:
According to my ancestor's death certificate, Melvina Gunter O'Guin states that her father was: William Gunter (born in Perry Co., Tenn.) and her mother was Nancy Jones (also born in Perry Co., TN).
There is a William Gunter in 1830 Hickman Co., TN census with the following stats.: 011000001-00110001
Breakdown is:
William Gunter was born between 1760 and 1770
His wife was born between 1770 and 1780
There were two young males residing in this household with ages between 5 & under 10 and age 10 & under 15;
There were two young females residng in this household with ages between 10 & under 15; an another age 15 and under 20.
Since this William Gunter does not appear in the next census, I'm assuming that due to his age at that time he must have died after 1830.
Information has been found (don't know through what source) that William's wife may have been Nancy Singleton.
My theories and conclusions are:
This William Gunter was probably the grandfather of my Melvina Gunter and that he must have had a son named
William Gunter (Jr.) who was most probably the father of my Melvina.
I have the 1850, 1860 & 1870 TN Census Index for all Gunter families in TN. My William and Nancy GUNTER do not appear at all in 1850 or 1860 or 1870 in TN Census Indexes.
No Gunter families appear in Perry Co., TN census index for 1850 or 1860.
I have found the first Gunter to appear in "Perry Co., TN" on 1870 TN Census - and it's Allen Gunter, age 22 (Perry Co. 453).
One William Gunter (most likely my ancestor) appears in 1830 Hickman Co., TN -
More theories and conclusions:
Allen and Robert Gunter must have been sons of William (Sr.?) -
they were residing in the same county (Hickman) during the same census in 1830
and were in the same age range as sons of William Sr. would have been.
According the the 1830 Hickman Co., TN census,
Robert Gunter was age 30 & under 40 with 1 male child (age 10-15) and 3 female children (under 5). His wife was age 20-30.
Allen Gunter was age 20 & under 30 with 1 male child (under 5), one female child (under 5) and another female child (5-10). His wife was age 20-30.
There were two additional sons and two daughters residing with William (Sr.) and two daughters in the 1830 census... At this
point, that puts the total number of children for William (Sr.?) up two "six" so far...
"IF" my conclusions are correct, William Gunter (Sr.) probably had these children (although there may have been more...):
1. Robert Gunter, born between 1790-1800
2. Allen Gunter born between 1800-1810... may have had wife named Elizabeth?
3. William Gunter (Jr.) born between1815-1825 (probably the father of my ancestor Melvina Gunter)...may have had wife named Nancy Jones.
4. Unknown Son Gunter, born between 1815-1825
5. Unknown Daughter Gunter, born between 1815-1820
6. Unknown Daughter Gunter, born between 1810-1815
In the 1840 census, an Elizabeth Gunter appears in Hickman County, TN as head of household with these stats.: 111-010001.
According to this information, Elizabeth was born between 1800-1810.
She had 3 male children: one under 5; one between 5 & under 10; and one between 10 & under 15
She had one daughter between the age of 5 & under 10 years of age.
She was most probably married before 1830 and was probably the wife of "Allen" or Robert.
Since she appears to have one son in the right age group to have appeared as "under 5" in the 1830 census....
It appears she could have been the wife of "Allen" who was the only Gunter in Hickman Co. with a son in that age bracket at that time.
Elizabeth's age of 20 & under 30 also fits in the 1830 census...
If my hunch is correct, Allen died before 1840, leaving Elizabeth a widow...
NOTE: The Allen Gunter (who appears as age 22 in the 1870 census of Perry Co., TN) could not have been this Allen's son, but probably a brother's son.
Mary Margaret :Pandora@fayette.nethas an ancestor named
Allen Gunter, born 1839, Perry County, TN. Allen married Nancy Ann BAILEY in Aberdeen, Monroe County, MS on 16 March 1865.
Allen and Nancy had 11 children:
John Adair
Nancy Jane
Susan E.
Samuel W.
Andrew Jackson "Andy" (her great grandfather)
Josephine
Mary L.
Martha E.
William Everett
Maggie Lee
Emma Ola
William and Nancy Gunter's daughter Melvina Gunter (according to her death certificate) was born June 28, 1859 in Perry County, Tenn.
That would have put her father's age as born before 1840 or so... Melvina's father may have been one of the
unnamed sons residing with his father Wm. (Sr.) in the 1830 census???
Earl Cagle found a William Gunter residing in the 1850 Mississippi County, Missouri who may have possibly
been Melvina's father (this might explain why we can't find him on census... he may have been moving around
a lot from KY to MO and back to TN by 1859 in time for Melvina to be born...
1850 Mississippi County, Missouri Census:
352: GUNTER, William, age 25, (male), b. TN
Gunter, Female (Name missing), age 22, (female), b. TN
Gunter, Male (Name missing), age 3 (male), b. KY
Gunter, Perry, age 15, (male), b. TN (this may have been a son of "Allen", who probably died before 1840, leaving his wife Elizabeth widowed...?)
Melvina married George W. O'Guin (born Sept. 18, 1857 in Whitfield, Hickman Co., Tn.) on July 26, 1876 in Perry Co., Tenn.
George W. and Melvina Gunter O'Guin are buried in Kimmins, Lewis County, Tn. in the O'Guin Cemetery in that county.
George died March 21, 1928 and Melvina died Sept. 17, 1947.
The children of George W. and Melvina Gunter O'GUIN are as follows:
1. William K. O'Guin, b. Oct. 11, 1877.
2. Etta O'Guin, b. Feb. 24, 1879, and married a Mr. Kroel.
3. Sophia Lavicia O'Guin, b. Feb. 24, 1879, d. 1860; She married Joe Riley on Dec. 9, 1908 in Hickman Co., TN.

7. Jasper Cooper O'Guin, born Aug. 31, 1892 in Hickman Co., TN, married Annie Bridgeman.
8. Cora Lillie (also seen as Luella E.?) O'Guin, born April 23, 1895 in Hickman Co., TN; died in 1925, married to John Taylor on Jan. 9, 1910 in Hickman Co., TN
