My husband's PRATER ancestor information is "extremely" limited at this time... but, thanks to fellow researcher, Gary B. Prather (GBPrather@aol.com) who has extensive Prater/Prather information, the following is what is know of the lineage of John Prather and Eleanor Pickens (parents of my husband's ancestor Mary Ann Prater who married John Couch:

My PRATER research, which primarily concentrates (at this point) with the descendants of John Prather who died 1829 in Alabama and his wife Eleanor Pickens (b. 1747-48, VA; d. SC) , (Eleanor Prather was the daughter of John and Eleanor Pickens.

John and Eleanor Pickens Prater had a daughter Mary Ann Prater, b. 1785 in S.C. who married John Couch, Sr. (b. 1775, NC) and had several children in Pickens Co., SC. John and Mary Ann Prater Couch are both buried in the Couch Family Cemetery in Pickens Co., S.C.

18 Nov 1997 - Ken Herren (herfam@usit.net)is descended from Anna Praytor (prob. the dau. of Wm. Praytor and Mary Middleton); Anna married William Chism around 1794 in South Carolina (possibly Laurens county). William died in Greenville in 1809 and Anna Praytor Chism was listed in the 1810 census in Greenville. She later moved to Laurens County, and then in the 1820's moved to West Alabama where she was living with her son Lewis David Chism in 1830. She died after 1845 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We believe that Anna is the sister of Middleton Praytor and the daughter of William and Mary Praytor. This is the line that Gary Prather is descended from. Do you have any information on Anna? I would appreciate anything.

Larry Stewart has a GGG grandfather, Sampson Stewart (1818 Perry Co.Tn. - 1883 Perry Co.TN) married (c. 1835 Hickman Co., TN.) to a Beadie Prater (1819 TN - 1854 Dickson Co. TN), who's parents were John Prater ( b. 1800 - 1810) and Ailey___ (b. 1802 GA) family listed in the 1830 and 1840 census of Hickman Co.Tn. If anyone has info. on Larry's Prater ancestors please contact him!
