My Sanders Ancestors from Rutherford Co. Tennessee (early 1800's)

There were fifteen other Sanders families in this district! I'm not sure which of the following might be Stephen's father, but I'm going to list all families in this district below in hopes that someone can help sort them out and lead to a possible clue to my Stephen's parents.
Stephen SANDERS was residing in Rutherford Co. TN from 1850, 1860 and 1870. In the 1880 Davidson Co. TN census (unless he was in error), he stated that both his parents were born in "TN".
In the 1900 Weakley Co. TN census, he stated that his father was born in "NC"... Conflicting info. doesn't make my search any easier...
The majority of the older SANDERS (old enough to have sons his age) in the Sanders District, were born in NC, (including a Wm. Sanders residing just two households away from Stephen), but there was a John SANDERS (age 44) who appeared just five households away from my ancestor Stephen (on the 1850 census) that was old enough to have a 22 yr. old son... I found a record of a John H. Sanders and Mary BROWN marrying on July 4th, 1837 in Rutherford Co. TN. Stephen SANDERS was born abt. 1822 in TN, so Mary was not his mother... BUT, there was another male residing with them that was 20 years old (Jesse Sanders) - was he a son from a previous marriage of John SANDERS? Could Jesse be a brother of John SANDERS who happened to be residing with him? If he wasn't a son of John, I wonder why he is listed at the top of the list of children... usually I've found that siblings, parents, etc. were generally listed "last" in the household, after the children of the head of household...
I'll need to check earlier census records and find John to see if he was married previously... I found no earlier marriage record for John in Rutherford Co. TN..., but I have not found a record of Stephen's first marriage either... only a date that was passed down to me by a family member.

I can't help but wonder if there's a connection here... Since Wilson Co. was just over the county line from "Rutherford District" (later 1st District in the northwest section of Rutherford Co.), there's a possibility that my Stephen's father was nearby in the next county...

In the 1850 census, there were "four" Stephen SANDERS residing in TN (the elder must have died prior to 1840...) The "four" Stephen SANDERS appeared in Davidson Co. (age 44), Bedford Co. (age 25), Madison Co. (age 35) and my ancestor is in Rutherford Co. (age 27).

8 Jul 1997 - Lee Ralph (leralph@kspress.com) is researching a Thomas Lemuel Sanders B. 1823 possibly in Rutherford County, Tenn, who married a Margaret Jane Ralph in 1847 in Rutherford Co., Tennessee. Thomas L. Sanders father was Robert Sanders (also spelled Saunders). Robert's wife was Lucinda Floyd. Their son Thomas L. and his wife and children went to Marion Co., Ark.. It is believed that some of Thomas' siblings stayed in Tennessee. Please contact Lee Ralph if you have any info. on this Sanders family!
