According to Janet Green Ariciu's research (see link below), she traces this Joseph in the RUPP’S THIRTY THOUSAND IMMIGRANTS, and states that JOESPH” Ziebly” arrived Philadelphia, Sept 30 1743 on the “ROBERT AND ALICE” under Hardly Cussack, Commander.
It's been said that Joseph Sievely married Catharine in Pa, stayed there for a while, then left to go to Virginia in the mid 1700's. Early land records indicate that Joseph and family were living in Frederick County (now Shenandoah County - after several county name changes and reformations) as early as 1752-1753. Their farm (where they raised cattle and grew grain) was near present day Forestville in Shenandoah County, Virginia on the head of a branch of Holman’s Creek, northwest of Timber Ridge. An interesting note is that a Lawrence Butler mentioned a "John Sively" in his will in this area dated 1731 but does not state what his relationship was to John Sivley. (Some think that this could he Joseph's brother?).
Jacob died sometime around 1782 and the census of Shenandoah County Va. of 1783 lists Catherine Sievely as head of the house with 9 family members. A will was filed in 1782 listing all their children as follows: JACOB, JOSEPH, PETER, JOHN, GEORGE, BARBARA, SARA, ELIZABETH, MARGARETTE, MAGDELENE, MARY, BETTY, ADAM, EVE BROWN, and Ann. Their appoximate birth dates came from the LDS site, where they are listed under "SIEVELY".
