Mt. Auburn Church/Culp's Chapel Cem., upper cemetery

Mt. Auburn Church is on the upper reaches of Powell Branch near the Wayne County line and appears on the western edge of the Clifton quadrangle. The church is now known as Culp's Chapel. The cemetery is large and in two parts. The lower part nearest the church is shown on the quadrangle. It is maintained and in use currently. The upper section is found by following the cemetery access road up into the pine woods north of the church. This upper section is much older, is not maintained, and no longer appears to be in use. There are several dozen stacked stone cairns here. Vaults and tombstones extend from the access road eastward into the woods. Recorded March 11, 1989.
This cemetery was recorded in February 1987 by J. Erving Riley and Ermadine Riley. Their record, appears in Wayne County, Tennessee Cemetery and Death Records.

Howell Cemetery:
This is the largest cemetery on Whiteoak Creek. It is located east of State Highway 128 on the road which runs parallel to and north of the creek. It is an old cemetery with perhaps a dozen stacked stone burial cairns. Most of the center of the cemetery near the cairns is empty, which means that dozens or even scores of graves are unmarked. This cemetery was recorded March 11, 1989. The cemetery also was recorded in February 1987 by J. Erving Riley and Ermadine Riley. Their record appears in Wayne County, Tennessee Cemetery and Death Records.
