I grew up in a neighborhood with lots of kids, and there was always something going on – a dog show, a talent show, a go-cart race. My siblings and I (at a very young age) were using my father’s power tools and my mother’s sewing machine to make tree houses, doghouses, doll clothes, dog costumes, puppets, etc. I liked the creativity and excitement.
When I grew up I wanted to be a detective, not an author. Although an author could be creative, I didn’t think an author’s life would be very exciting. I was wrong. Now, I’m Seaman fighting off bears in the western wilderness. I’m Alex frantically trying to escape from Brick Johnson. I’m Buster racing across the yard to save that baby. I am all of those characters and more, without ever leaving my house. All I have to do is start writing.
