Wrentham Historical Commission
A letter from C. Gordon Woodhams, Sr. on 30 March, 1966, to the Board of Selectmen, started
correspondence which resulted in the formation of a study committee. At the
adjourned town meeting on the 27th of March, 1967, at the recommendation of the committee, Article 49, asking the town
to accept the provisions of Chapter 40, Section 8D of the General Laws, was voted unanimously. The first Wrentham Historical Commission was appointed by
the Board of Selectmen on the 18th of April, 1967.
A number of people who were interested in Wrentham's history formed
to help the Commission (Massachusetts law allows only seven members on
the Commission). That group helped the Commission secure what is now known
as The Wampum House at 677 South Street.
The Wampum House is used for Commission meetings, ( the third Monday
of each month at 7:30 PM ), and houses much of the town's collection of
artifacts.
The Commission holds several open houses during the year, most often
centering around a specific theme.
