Since l973 Kat Kroll has practiced Tai Chi (taijiquan) and Qi-gong. Her
current teaching is based on "Chen style", which emphasizes "spiral power"
as a means of increasing "qi" and blood circulation. For the past ten years
she has studied Chen style 24, 48, spiral power exercises, qi-gong and
sword form with Master Zhang Xue Xin. Previously she had studied
Nanking-Integrated form with Joe Deisher and Master Chang I-Chung,
as well as Wild Goose Qi-Gong with Paul Li.

She has taught hundreds of students the rejuvenating, stress reducing
pleasure of finding their natural grace of movement.

Kat spent l3 years on the Mendocino Coast living in a dome on the Garcia
River where redwoods, curious deer and the flowing river attuned her to
Marin Buber's "I-thou" kinship with the natural universe. She brings this
sense of moving with ocean and clouds to her Bay Area classes.

While on the coast, she and her husband created "Oz" an Esalen inspired
growth center and children's drama camp.

After graduating from Mills College, Kat's ongoing study of psycho/spiritual
awareness and movement included yoga with Baba Hari Dass, Arica School,
Feldenkreis, Gestalt psychology, Vipassana, "authentic movement", dance,
and most influentially "the mythical aspects of our journey" and the prayer
of St. Frances with Jungian/Sufi/Quaker Dr. Katherine Whiteside Taylor.

She is presently exploring Pilates and learning to speak Mandarin.

Kat lives in San Francisco, the tai chi capital of the western world, with
her husband Si "Redwood" Kroll, cartoonist, computer science professor,
Renaissance man. She delights in frequent contact with her talented
children and their spouses - Panda, Jon and Zoey Kroll, Kevin Volkan,
and Karen Kroll. As of May 2002, Kat has a new love, her grandson
Max T. Volkan.
