Layers is a band in evolution.  Changing, Growing, Only altering it’s form when it will benefit both the collective forces of the band and it’s listening audience.  A “no heroes” band, that functions as a family unit, the music of Layers serves as a vehicle to transmit emotions and energy, creating a personal relationship with it’s listeners.

Since 1979, the only personnel change has been the addition of a new drummer.  This long term commitment  has resulted in a cohesiveness which can only come with familiarity.   Layers has achieved the delicate balance of retaining musical integrity, while continuing to satisfy audiences with it’s unique blend of material.  The band’s repertoire includes current and vintage covers, all of which are given a diverse musical treatment.

Each band member plays an integral role in the production of original compositions.  From the conception of a musical idea, to the final mix-down, composition, instrumentation and arrangement are a team effort.  Layers’ own tunes have placed 2nd and 3rd in the Chesapeake Regional Songwriter’s Competition.  The band placed 2nd in the Willie Nelson/Wrangler Music Invitational and was in the final running in the Budweiser In-Concert Showcase.

On stage, Layers has opened for guitar great Alvin Lee and shared the spotlight with such well known local talent as Rolz Royce and the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz.  The band has also appeared on Baltimore’s Evening Magazine and the weekly music showcase Shakedown.  Layers remains a familiar name from Frederick to Ocean City.

Surviving the many conflicts and traumas ever-present in the music industry, Layers has evolved and matured, becoming stronger and tighter, preserving the tradition of solid, quality rock, without bending to gimmicks and trends.  Layers has the creative flexibility and the stamina to endure and entertain for a long time to come.

Layers promotes itself with this website, a hot-line recording of upcoming dates and, soon to come, an email subscription list.  Hotline cards are distributed during performances.
