I would like to thank the junior high parents and choir members who were able to attend the performance for the Traveling Wall on Sept. 8, 2007.  Truly, your commitment to the community and to those who have served and died for our freedoms is to be commended.  I heard many positive comments from veterans including a most heartfelt thank you from the Ret. Lt. Colonel who is in charge of the wall and from Mr. Jerry Neuberg, the VFW Post Commander in Lisle.

We are off to a great start this year.  I can tell already that our choirs will be topnotch and I am really looking forward to the holiday concerts in both schools.  Please plan to attend our first fundraiser/concert on October 1, 2007.  Since we all have to eat dinner anyway this is a great way to raise money for scholarships, robes, clinicians, support the choirs, and gather with friends and family.   It is the first concert of the year and your children love it when you attend their events, no matter how casual they may seem about it.

This year I gave out calendars that included both junior and senior high events.  I hoped that this would eliminate paper around the house for those parents who have students in both of those schools, and so that students could see what events were happening in each other’s school and attend if they wanted to.

Finally, I would ask that you please support your Choral Booster Organization.  I so truly believe that your schools and programs are strongest when there is a good parent/teacher/student connection.  The board works hard for every child enrolled in vocal music and they sincerely need your help.

Thank you and I hope everyone had a great start to the new school year!

This year we are excited to have about 80 chorus members in fourth and fifth grade!  We are in our second week of rehearsals and I can tell already that this year is going to be filled with beautiful sounds and musical growth.  We are busy preparing for our first concert on October 1st.   The fifth grade will be performing a favorite from last year called “Windy Nights” along with a fun new song called “Baseball Fever.”  The fourth grade chorus is working on “Walking in the Air” from the movie The Snowman and an Irving Berlin classic, “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.”  I think you will be amazed at how wonderful they sound after only a few weeks’ rehearsal!

I would like to let everyone know about an exciting event coming up in our area.  On October 5th and 6th, the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus will be hosting the National Boys Choir of Australia.  On Friday evening, October 5th, they will be performing a joint concert at St. Michael’s Church, 111 N. West St. in Wheaton at 8:00pm.   Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.  Please call 858-2471 for tickets.

On Saturday Oct 6th, boys from area schools are invited to join the two choirs for a BOYS ONLY BASH from 8:30 to 12:00.  All Lisle choir students in 4th through 8th grade with treble (unchanged) voices are invited to attend.  If your child fits into this category, he will be bringing information home about this workshop.

Please call me at 493-8120 or email aleonard@lisle202.org with any questions.  We are looking forward to a great school year of singing!   See you on October 1st!

Mrs. Leonard
