car wasn't in bad shape when we bought it, although it did put out a bit
of black smoke. This was fixed by removing entire intake system, cleaning
and replacing components as necessary, such as the fuel pressure regualtor
and engine coolant temperature sensor. It went through NJ inspection with
very clean emissions, but the exhaust system was rusted through. I had a
local muffler shop make an entire system from the turbo downpipe back
using a hi-flow catalytic convertor, and a genuine Sonic Turbo muffler
that I bought at a speed shop for $10. This gave a slight but noticeable
increase in power. I also fitted a Pioneer stereo with a CD changer, and
replaced the rear parcel shelf with one made from MDF with two Kenwood 6x9
speakers. The camshaft was swapped for a Ranger Roller item, and the later
valve cover gasket fitted to stop leaks.
The middle picture shows it trying to hide
behind my Mini.
