Introduction:

PDQ Quartet was formed in early 2006.  However, each member has had many years of experience singing in barbershop quartets (collectively over 80 years of quartet singing experience!).  We’re extremely busy in the Baltimore – Washington area with over 30 engagements per year.  PDQ has an extensive repertoire of entertaining songs and is available for parties, weddings, meetings, and any function where musical entertainment is needed.

PDQ sings a wide range of songs in the Barbershop harmony style. Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied singing, in which 3 voices (bass, baritone & tenor) harmonize with the melody (sung by the lead).  This style of singing originated before the turn of the century and enjoyed its’ greatest popularity from 1890 to the late 1920’s.  By the 1930’s, barbershop quartet singing was on the decline until two businessmen from Oklahoma placed an ad in a local paper looking for men who like to sing.  Twenty-six men attended that 1st meeting which was later to become the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA).  Recently, the name was changed to the Barbershop Harmony Society  (BHS) which currently has over 40,000 members nationally & internationally.
