Las Vegas
Las Vegas has become one of my favorite places. There are actually things to do in Las Vegas other than gambling. Shows may be overpriced, but nonetheless can be good. Restaurants may be overpriced, but nonetheless can be good. Bars, lounges, and ultra lounges may be overpriced, but nonetheless can be good. Do you sense a theme here?
I've saved the best for last. Either in Vegas, or within an hour's drive, there are all sorts of active pursuits: hiking, rock climbing, rock scrambling, kayaking, skydiving, indoor skydiving (sort of), landsailing, race car driving, and more.
Trip Reports
Want to read more? See my trip reports:
- September 2004. Two weeks jam packed with activities. Highlights included jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, and eating at all sorts of good restaurants.
- April/May 2005. Another trip with lots of stuff to do.
- June/July 2005. Mid-summer, so no physical activities this time - just lots of shows, eating, and gambling.
- September 2005. Big report! Back to the tried and true formula of lots of activities. This would probably be my last trip for a while, so I splurged. See my review of The Wynn Hotel, and a bunch of great restaurants. Also: three days in Zion National Park.
- October 2005. A surprise trip. I was so hyper after my crazy bungy jump at Royal Gorge Bridge (see below), I couldn't sit still - so it was off to Vegas again. This was a more modest trip, with fewer activities, but it was still a lot of fun.
- March/April 2006. Really big report! At 21 days, it was my longest trip yet. Some old favorites, but a lot of new things as well. Includes Death Valley National Park and Mojave National Preserve.
- September/October 2006. A mere 14 days in the desert. Lots of eating, shows, hiking, and some new things as well.
- September/October 2007. It was a whole year since my last visit. This time, I spent 6 days touring some national parks, then 12 days in town.
- May 2008. San Francisco, Yosemite and Vegas. A trip for chowhounds and tree huggers, with a few other tidbits thrown in.
- November 2008. Just Las Vegas this time.
- May 2009. Three national parks and Vegas. A return to the Grand Canyon (the South Rim this time), then on to Moab for Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
- October 2009. Included my first trip to Sedona, and a visit to the Phoenix area.
Larry's Guide to Las Vegas
Wow! Those trip reports are starting to get out of hand. Wouldn't it be nice if I summarized the highlights? Larry's Guide to Las Vegas provides a more organized view of my experiences, in the areas of restaurants, outdoor activities, and some oddball stuff. Sorry, there's nothing on gambling, hotels, or spas.
The Best of Las Vegas
AND...The Best of Vegas! What are the best restaurants? The best hotels? The best shows? I don't know - I haven't been to them all. However, I do have my favorites.
