The exemplary education that has characterized our community has eroded due to budget cuts over the past five years. Today, our schools are in danger of no longer being able to prepare our students for success in the twenty-first century.

I am convinced that with strong leadership, we CAN do better. This is why I decided to become a candidate for Newburyport’s School Committee, and why I respectfully ask for your vote.

We must do better. With focus on student achievement, funding and communications, we CAN do better.

• Focus on Student Achievement: More discussion about education. Clearly understand the educational implications of decisions in the context of the District’s Vision and long range plan.
• Focus on Funding: School Committee leadership is financial leadership. In difficult times it counts more than ever.
• Focus on Communication: Only through effective communication can we ensure that education becomes an issue the entire community cares about.

Newburyport is fortunate to have a choice of six candidates running for three seats on the School Committee this year. I believe my experience and passion for education make me an ideal candidate. But to affect the necessary change, I need your help:

• Would you be willing to host a coffee to introduce me to your friends and neighbors?
• Would you participate in a ward walk in your part of town?
• Would you be willing to place a yard sign at your house?
• Are there other skills and efforts you might bring to the campaign?
