Description
I'm organizing an outing to Castle Rock State Park to photograph some of its big sandstone rock formations. I don't have any special techniques to share but I'm very familiar with the trails and where the formations are located. Afternoon light would be nice, so I'm suggesting that we meet in the parking lot of the Saratoga Library at 4PM to carpool up to the Park (arriving about 4:30PM) and leave the Park around sunset. On Thursday there will be far fewer people to shoot around; on Saturday there will be climbers to possibly photograph. Please let me know if you would prefer to go on Thursday, August 14th or on Saturday, August 16th.

Location
Meet in the back corner (furthest from the library) of the parking lot of the Saratoga Library at 4PM to carpool up to the Park. The Saratoga Library is on Saratoga Ave.; as you are heading towards downtown Saratoga (and the mountains) it is on the left just after you go thru the signal light at Fruitvale Ave. If you can't meet us at the library, please phone me ahead of time and meet us in the main parking lot of the Park around 4:30PM. Castle Rock is on Skyline, about 3.5 miles south of where it intersects Hwy.9.

Logistics
Where we go in the Park, how far we walk and when we take a break to eat will be determined by those attending. You may wish to bring the following: tripod, hat, walking stick, bag supper or snacks, windbreaker (it is frequently much cooler up at the Park), good walking shoes or hiking boots. Please bring water.

Photography Tips
This venue offers landscapes, nature, close-ups and some action. You may wish to have both wide-angle and telephoto lens. There will be places of strong daylight on pale sandstone and deep shade, so you might want a diffuser and/or a lightweight reflector for getting light into the caves.
