Pt. Lobos State Park Field Trips
Thursday May 28 and Saturday May 30, 2009
Hosted by Pat Puder

Description
Pt Lobos offers exceptional seascape and wildlife photographic opportunities. It hosts breeding seabird populations, otters, seals, sea lions, tide pools, shorebirds, wildflowers, Monterey Cyprus and Pines, and dramatic coastal cliffs and rock formations. Many of the best views are from the trails that go around the park, but there are also some fine locations close to the parking areas.

Location
Pt Lobos is 3 miles south of Carmel on Hwy. 1.

Logistics
It takes about 2 hours to drive to Pt Lobos from Saratoga. This can vary a great deal with slow traffic. I suggest that we meet to carpool from the Saratoga Library at 9AM for the Thursday trip and at 8AM for the Saturday trip. These will be all-day trips. Please bring a sack lunch and drinks for yourselves, and cash for gas and park entrance ($10 per car), and possibly for dinner on the road home. Hiking shoes, hat, windbreaker, sunscreen and water bottle would also be advisable.

Photography Tips
Both wide angle (for some of the coastal views) and telephoto (for birds and marine mammals) lens would be useful, as would a tripod. We will be there mainly in the midday, so consider there may be glare. But keep your equipment as light as you can, as the trails are not particularly steep, but they are fairly long.

To Sign-Up
Please contact Pat Puder (831) 247-6145 or patpuder@aol.com. Please leave your name and phone number. I will need to know which day you would like to go and if you would like to carpool; can you drive and how many could you take or if you would like a ride. If you're not carpooling, I'll need to set up some meeting times with you.
