Post Field Trip Report

Thanks to Betty for organizing this successful field trip for a second year. There were at least eleven members from the club there. Here are some of our images.

Vietnamese New Year (Tet) Spring Festival & Parade

PARADE 11am-1pm 10th Market St. from St. John St. to San Carlos St. San Jose
FESTIVAL: 10am-6pm 180 Park Avenue.

Tet Festival and Parade is an opportunity for great PJ and Human Interest photography. Cooperative and beautiful people, interesting native dress, fascinating culture and competitive Dragon Dancers and more.

Arrive between 9am and 10 am for the best activities and pre-parade photography.

Smile, be patient and courteous. Do not interfere with the pre-parade preparation.

Be sure that you have confirmed with a smile or a nod of the head that it is OK to take pictures of whomever you have your camera aimed at. Not everyone wants to be photographed. BE SURE TO CONFIRM WITH A PARENT IF IT IS OK TO TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH OF A CHILD BEFORE YOU TAKE THE PICTURE!!! THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! (Usually the parent is pleased to comply, but I have been asked by several people over the years why I am taking so many photos and what am I going to do with them.)

Bring 3x5 cards or a small note book, take names and addresses before taking the picture and offer to send a copy of your photographs to parents. Be sure to follow up with your promise.

Sometimes, groups of people will ask you to take a group photo and send one of them a copy. Often these are people, in their native dress, who have not seen each other for many years. ( I have done this in the past and parents or groups recognize you the next year and give you thanks. )

Free parking in the garage opposite the parking lot where the parade convenes.
