| These two workers are produced by two of the alleles for the alcohol dehydrogenase Instruction. The one on the left is Al (alcohol dehydrogenase I beta-1) and the one on the right is beta-3. The single different link between them (shown in yellow in the pictures) slightly changes the way they hold on to NAD (light blue). This small difference makes beta-3 much faster Al at converting ethyl alcohol into acetaldehyde, allowing people who have that allele to drink more alcohol before getting drunk. |
