The Praying Farmer

I remember a man who owned a farm near where we lived in Southeastern Missouri, about five miles East of Bernie, in Stoddard County. I don't remember his name nor what he looked like nor do I remember what his house was like. The only thing I remember about that farmer is hearing him pray. I can remember walking along the country, gravel road and hearing the farmer praying while out in his cornfield. I don't know whether he prayed at his house or not but I imagine that he did. Most people who would pray loudly from the middle of their cornfield would also pray while in their house. Now I didn't know the Lord as my Savior at that time and I was only about eight years old but I thought it was a good thing for the man to be praying, praying loudly too, and from the middle of his cornfield. Sometimes I could make out some of the words but not enough to really understand what he was saying. I knew he was talking to God but I didn't grasp or understand the real significance of  what he was doing. I was thinking just a few minutes ago that I surely would like to meet that man now and talk with him. I would even enjoy going with him, out into that cornfield and praying and praising God with him. I think that would be improbable because the times that I heard him praying was about 65 years ago. I hope God heard the farmer's prayers and answered them in whatever way was fitting at the time. If I had a cornfield, I would go out there often and praise and thank God for his love and mercy.
