Pacific Ocean Trip

March 26th - 28th, 2006

(Return to the Home Page by clicking little Caly to the right.)

What a weekend!  Dodd & I decided to celebrate our 6th anniversary with our little girl at the beach.  She loves water, so the ocean sounded like a good idea.  And were we ever right!  No fear . . .She'd jump into the waves and race in circles, chase birds, dig.  Ya know, all that stuff Mals love to do!  We stayed in Moclips at the Ocean Crest Resort.  The beaches were littered with clam diggers.  Caly found out very quickly not to mess with those diggers.  Oooo, instant karma, Caly!  I guess that's what happens when you don't listen, eh.

Monday, March 27th, we drove around Lake Quinault and headed out to the more northern beaches up the peninsula.  Our adventure took us to Ruby Beach.  Oh my gosh!  This one's  up there in the Top 5 Best Beaches!  And NO clam diggers!!!  Everything about the beach was
incredible!  Tide pools, colored sand, round rocks everywhere . . . . What a blast!!

PACIFIC BEACH, Clam Diggers - I'm guessing in the thousands!!!  Looking North towards Sunset Beach & Moclips

Caly's great escape was not the most positive experience.  She, of coarse, found the most serious of clam diggers . . . . happily wagging her tail, with a big grin, the couple began batting at her as if she were a fly.  Well that was DUMB!  Next! . . . Noticing that Mom was close on her heels, she turned her attention inland.  I came puffing up to the couple and apologized.  Hum, not friendly towards humans either.  Not so much as a twitch in my direction.  Great!  Now where was she headed?!  The forever curious Malamute on the hunt for more fun!  After running a few (if not more) football fields, I finally caught up with my little pup.  Unfortunately for Caly, the off leash experiment was over.

Now, off to the resort . . .

Caly in a bit of trouble!
Yes.  She ran off in front of that truck above, after harassing the clam digging couple.

I guess she was a little excited about the beach.

Checking out the new patio.

"Um, Dad's got food.  Hello!
Can I come in now?"

The pictures below, from left to right, is the view South, West, and North from our room.  Thousands of people crawling all over the beaches from Ocean Shores to the Quinault Indian Reservation.  I've never seen anything like this.  Pretty incredible!

Ocean Crest Resort was quite an experience as well!  Quiet, except for the roar of the ocean.  Clean.  Pets welcomed.  The perfect example of customer service.  Cable, so we didn't miss the Ron White stand-up act (Yea, 'cause TV's the most important thing on vacation?  Well, what else is there to do in Moclips after 9pm?). The food was to die for.  Private access to the beach down the coolest staircase that followed a little stream.

Check out this view from our room!!

Our next adventure took us across the Quinault Indian Reservation, around Lake Quinault, and through miles of the Olympic National Park.

So, we didn't actually take any pictures of the lake.
However, we did stumble upon a few streams that emptied into Lake Quinault.
AND beautiful (
cold!) waterfalls.

Going for a COLD swim.

Maybe, Redneck Art?

Okay, now count the waterfalls with me . . . .1, 2, 3, 4, ugh!
I lost count.
Okay, .1, 2 . . .forget it!
Way too many to count!  Yet all of them very unique and beautiful!

We crossed here.

This is for all of you who love maps!

Just after crossing the river, we ran into a small herd of elk.  Caly's first sighting.  So many new things . . . . No wonder she was tuning Mom and Dad out.

Our final stop of the day was RUBY BEACH.  WOW!

Thought this one was so good, it was worth showing a bigger version.

"Don't fall in, Mom.  Hee hee hee!"

Let's go check out those tide pools . . . .

That's a lot of frick'n starfish!!!!!

"Okay, saltwater went up my nose!!"

The sand here looked a little different.
Look closer. . . . It's purple!

Near by, we found a rock that looked like a sushi roll.

Time for a wash off and then negotiate the drift wood again.

"Mom!  Save me!  These logs are reeeally, scary!!"

One last look at Ruby Beach.
