Literacy Champions The
Literacy Champions is an initiative begun in 2004 of the Massachusetts Literacy
Foundation. Sponsored by Verizon Reads
and Herald Media Inc, the objective is: “Recognizing leadership and innovation in the field of
Literacy and building partnerships to strengthen outreach and outcomes.” For

In June, 2005, Judy Langley
was selected as one of the ten Literacy Champions chosen for 2005-2006. On January 23, 2006, Judy and Jeanne
ventured into Boston to attend the awards breakfast with special guests Mayor
of the City of Boston, Thomas Menino and Bob Bickerton, Senior Associate
Commissioner of Education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The keynote speaker,
Julian Houston, Associate Justice of the Superior Court of Massachusetts,
spoke of the power of education and the power of literacy. Judy was honoured to have been chosen for
this award and numbered with the other amazing Literacy Champions.
