The St. Clair Art Association Public Art Committee and the Downtown Development Authority invite you to create a picture for our new project “Seasons in St. Clair.”
Artists are invited to submit an artwork depicting a SUMMER scene in downtown St. Clair. The scene can be real or imaginary but the location has to be recognizable as downtown St. Clair, past or present. The Seasons in St. Clair project will continue over the next three years with the season changing each year. The Call for Artists will be for “Fall in St. Clair” in 2010; “Winter in St. Clair” in 2011 and “Spring in St. Clair” in 2012.

The St. Clair Art
Association (SCAA) Public Art Committee and the Downtown Development
Authority are committed to the advancement of Public Art in St. Clair
through the Seasons in St. Clair project.
ELIGIBILITY: Artists
18 years and older are invited to participate. Only original artwork is
eligible; student work completed under the supervision of an instructor
is not. Work previously exhibited at the Alice W. Moore Center for
the Arts is ineligible.
MEDIA AND PRESENTATION:
Artists are invited to submit artwork depicting a summer scene in
downtown St. Clair, past or present. The scene can be real or imaginary
but the location has to be recognizable as downtown St. Clair. The
artist may choose the medium. Photographs and/or photographic
processing are ineligible. The artwork must be submitted 18” x 24” in
size, titled, unmatted and unframed. The finished artwork must be
able to be reproduced in the form of prints.
ENTRY: Complete and
return ENTRY FORM with delivery of artwork. Attach identification labels
to back lower right corner of painting. Also include a brief, one-page
bio. Deadline: Artwork must be submitted to the SCAA by 5:00 p.m.,
Tuesday, September 29. Works not hand delivered must be sent prepaid in
packages suitable for return. Please contract for “inside
delivery” with your shipper. If you ship your artwork, the return
shipping fee must be included. Entry Fee: $15.00 for each
artwork submitted. Please make your check payable to the St. Clair
Art Association.
PRIZES: The winning
artwork will be announced on October 3, 2009. The artist will receive a
cash prize of $1,000 and a solo exhibit The top three finalists
will receive an invitation to the St. Clair Art Fair June 26 & 27, 2010.
Booth fees will be paid by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
AGREEMENT TERMS: The
winning artwork will become the property of the DDA, which will retain
all rights to reproduce and/or sell reproductions in any method,
including but not limited to prints. The winning artist is
encouraged to attend the Yuletyme Gala Preview and must agree to sign
and number prints. Submission of artwork to be juried constitutes
agreement with conditions stated in this prospectus. The juror
reserves the right to a final selection of accepted works.
Decision of the juror is final. The SCAA reserves the right to
photograph and/or reproduce photos of all accepted entries for publicity
purposes. All other submitted artwork will be returned to the artists
after the exhibit. If your artwork is for sale, please indicate this
below. If not, please check NFS (not for sale). The SCAA receives
30% sales commission.
SALES: The pre-sale
orders for the winning artwork prints will begin Oct. 4, 2009.
Distribution will begin at the Yuletyme Gala Preview Tues., Nov. 24,
5:30 – 8 p.m. Proceeds from the sale of reproductions benefit the St.
Clair Art Association Public Art Fund. The framed original artwork
will be raffled January 6, 2010.
EXHIBIT, RECEPTION & AWARDS PRESENTATION,
PICK-UP OF ARTWORK: Artists, members and guests are
cordially invited to the Exhibit Opening Reception: Sunday, Oct. 4, 2 –
4 p.m. when awards will be presented. Exhibition: Oct. 4 thru Nov. 13.
Pick up– Sat., Nov. 14, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

TOM HALE, JUROR
After his graduation from St. Clair High School and a year at MSU, Tom
received a BS degree with honors from the Art Center School in Los
Angeles, CA. From 1966 to 1985 he was employed as a styling
designer at GM, Chrysler and American Motors. In 1985, he chose to
pursue his art career full time, earning his living exclusively with his
artwork.
Tom has received more than 350 awards, but is most proud of the Gold
Medal of Honor from the American Watercolor Society (AWS) in New York
City for his painting titled CHROME. He is a signature member & Dolfin
Fellow of the AWS; a signature member of the National WS, the Michigan
WS and a member of the Automotive Fine Art Society. In 2005 he was
elected to the Hall of Fame in the Auburn Cord Duesen-berg Museum in
Auburn, Indiana.
Tom has been the juror of many art competitions. He also speaks &
critiques artwork for various art organizations. His work can be seen at
selected art exhibits around the country, Concours d’Elegance events and
various other automotive events. His Farmington Hills studio is open by
appointment.
