Episode #17- Richie
Moves Out (2nd season premier) (9/10/74)
“Hey Rich, I think the man in the Henry J is hungry, he just threw a menu at me!”
I recall seeing that episode of Happy Days, the first time it aired on 9/10/1974. When that line was delivered, I remember being terribly disappointed by the fact that they NEVER showed the car!!!
I MARRIED JOAN 1953-1955
There is an
episode of the old I
MARRIED JOAN TV series where Joan thinks she’s put a dent into the fender
of her car…it’s a 1952 Henry J Corsair and is prominently featured (not just
a brief bit) in the episode. Unfortunately, I do not have the episode name or
number. If anyone knows, please e-mail
me.
Jack and The Beanstalk 1952 - This Abbott and Costello comedy was filmed with a color section and black and white (sepia tone in some versions) beginning and ending segments, much like the Wizard of Oz. In the opening B&W section our heroes are shown driving up to an employment agency in a 1951 Henry J. After running it into one car, they then back it into a Nash police car as the officer is getting out. The officer reprimands Lou and angrily proceeds to push the Henry J away. They are also driving the Henry J as they pull up to the house where they are to baby-sit and once again slam it into a Nash.
Dragnet 1954 - In the original Dragnet movie, a maroon (Cardinal) colored Henry J can be seen gliding by as Joe Friday and Frank Smith park their car in front of a recording studio where they interrogate a witness. It is clearly visible.
This picture of it was actually taken right off my TV screen -

This Island Earth 1955 - The Henry J in this 50s Sci-Fi thriller is not as obvious as the one seen in Dragnet. I actually saw this picture 3 times before I noticed it. It is visible just a few minutes into the picture as a man arrives at the air tower for an emergency. You can see it as his car pulls through the gates and then again as he hurries up the ladder. This photo too, was taken right off my TV screen

Steel Town 1952 - Probably the one contemporary film to most prominently feature the Henry J. Howard Duff is shown pulling up to a diner in a Mariner gray 1951 HJ in the second scene of the movie. It is featured in two other scenes as well. Steel Town also features a 1951 Kaiser driven by John Lund. In one scene Howard Duff refers to it as "I wondered who's waffle-iron this was..." while Lund clarifies that it is his "Strat-o-jet." Some of the scenes were filmed at the Kaiser Steel plant in Fontana, CA. Watch for it on AMC - they often air Steel Town on February 21st as that is star Ann Sheridan's birthday. This shot too was taken off my TV screen -

Men of Honor 2000 - Stars Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr. A nice shot of the rear of a blue 1953 Henry J Corsair Deluxe can be seen almost halfway into the movie as Cuba Gooding Jr. enters a bar. It is clearly discernable in several shots.
If you know of any other movies, especially those filmed in that era, that feature scenes where Henry J cars can be seen, please E-mail me.
