Class Policies

CLASS PROCEDURES:

  • BE ON TIME! This classroom has a zero tolerance for tardiness after the first week of classes. BE ON TIME! (It is better to be on time and ask permission to get a drink or go to your locker afterwards, than to be late) With few exceptions, we begin class with a warm-up multiple choice quiz OR a five/ten minute free-response essay.
  • BE PREPARED! Have a pen/pencil, notebook/laptop ready to go. You do not need to bring your textbook to class.
  • Please do not talk while I am talking. Raise your hand if you have a comment and/or question. Be courteous to other students.

    ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Your assignments will be posted on my AP web page. You will be able to link to the web page from Copernicus. On the AP home page click on AP Art History. Your assignments are posted by chapter on the Calendar for 2007-2008
  • When you are absent, check the web page for last minute changes. Double check assignments by either calling a classmate or emailing me. I will make every effort to reply to you as soon as I can.

    HOMEWORK:

  • Study Guides are due on the day of the test. Anything that is not turned in at the beginning of class is considered late. Late assignments will be penalized 10% of the value of the assignment per day. Computer problems are not an excuse for late work!

    QUIZZES/TESTS:

  • Quizzes are announced and cover a limited amount of information. Tests are comprehensive and primarily objective. Application of learned material is stressed, rather than rote memorization. Free-Response Essays will count as test grades.
  • When you miss a quiz or a test: If you were absent ON THE DAY OF THE TEST, and return to school the following day, you have 48 hours to make up that test. NO EXCUSES WILL BE ACCEPTED because of sports, games, etc. If you do not have a free-PLAN ON STAYING AFTER SCHOOL!! If it is the case of an extended absence, you will have extended time to complete all missing work. Failure to make up the work in a timely manner will result in a grade of 0. YOU WILL NOT BE EXCUSED BECAUSE OF SPORTS!!!
  • ACADEMIC HONESTY ON TESTS, QUIZZES, AND HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED! DO YOUR OWN WORK!

    GRADING:

  • Quarter grades: Grades are based on tests quizzes, essays, etc. Each test will be worth 100 points; points for other assignments will vary. Grades will be averaged as a percent of points earned against the total possible points.
  • Semester/Final grades: The first and second quarter grades will each count 40% toward the first semester grade. The midterm exam will count 20% of the first semester average. The third and fourth quarter grades will each count 50% toward the second semester grade. Each semester grade will count 50% toward the final grade.

    FIELD TRIPS:

  • There are two MANDATORY field trips to art museums. One trip is scheduled for November 14th to the Washington DC and the second trip is scheduled for March 20th, 2009 to New York City. You will not be excused from either of the field trips. The cost of the trip is based upon EVERYONE attending. It is NOT FAIR for others to bear your cost!

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN LEARNING!
