Dear Brothers & Sisters of Flint Tool & Die:

As of June 1, 2008, the recently elected Committee and Unit Executive Board were sworn in as your new representatives. My congratulations to all of them and I am looking forward to working with you and the membership. I would further like to congratulate the members taking the Sap, your presence and experience will be missed.

Currently we are in the process of team training for GMS and a few teams are up and operating. It is very encouraging to see the members here at FTD step up to the plate once again and accept the challenge and acknowledge change. GMS, as many of you know, was a huge part of our current local negotiations, but there are still several open issues yet to be resolved in negotiations. Probably the largest issues are unsettled grievances, utilization and work rules. The status on our facility in regards to the recent announcement of Pontiac Die Room closing is still unknown, but as it becomes known the Committee body will share any new information.

The 160 new DES Brothers and Sisters are still slated to start here at FTD on July 7, 2008, and are a welcomed addition to our facility, especially under the current economic challenges we face. The future workload still seems to be bleak starting late August or early September, as some of our sister plants have already started down the path of laying off and establishing banks.

On a higher note, some of the skilled members and the facility will be showcased on June 18, 2008 in a new apprentice video the Joint parties are producing to promote recruiting future apprentices.

In closing, I would like the entire membership to keep in mind, as we continue towards the political season this fall, we need to remind our elected officials and candidates it's "All about the economy". Let's not let them dictate our issues or morals to us as they have done in the past election cycles.

Thanks for your continued support
