LOGISTIC SERVICES, INC.
PRESIDENT, WALT DUVERNOIS - 810-232-4136
CHAIRMAN, BOB WEISSEND- 810-720-6355
Well, we've completed another V-CAP drive and I would like to thank everyone who signed up again this year. For anyone who didn't have a chance to get signed up but wanted to, please get with myself or your Committeeperson to do so.
There are five tentative downtime weeks set to take place on the weeks of September 29th, November 10th, November 17th, December 15th and December 22nd. We have met with Labor Relations concerning these weeks with concerns about negotiated holiday pay that may be lost do to these becoming downtime weeks, vacation pay-out at the end of the year effecting unemployment and insurance benefits becoming terminated during these weeks. Labor Relations will be getting back with us on this but said none of these should be a problem to resolve. However, they are not willing to take volunteers from the 560 line to substitute out for 900 line employees. Any holiday pay received will have to be claimed as income when filling unemployment for the week ending in which it was credited for. There are several rumors floating around about Truck and Bus and Pontiac about who will be doing what. As of now these are all just rumors and be treated as such. As information becomes available to us, it will be forwarded to you as soon as possible. We should continue to supply our customers with the same workmanship and pride that we always have to assure future business for ourselves and to help the Flint Truck Plant to be successful.
As the holiday seasons come up fast, we will be doing several things to help people in our community have a joyous one. This year, we will be having a drive for the United Way which will directly affect the quality of life for individuals here in our community. Next, we will be involved with the Breast Cancer Walk put on annually by the American Cancer Society, followed by a food drive held here at L.S.I. to be given out by the United Postal Service, ending with the sponsoring of a family with the Carriage Town Ministries for the Christmas holiday.
Last year, thanks to all of our support, this was a huge success. Wendy Sigourney, Dave Ellington and Amy Reinbolt were able to purchase a substantial amount of gifts for the four children we had for our family. We would all like to give special thanks to you guys for doing so on your own time. So, to recap this year, we will be doing four drives for the charities listed above - September United Way, October American Cancer Society, November U.P.S. food drive and December Carriage Town Ministries adopt a family program. I know this seems like a lot for us to contribute to each year, especially in times of economic struggles and high prices. All that's being asked for is a couple of dollars once a month for people in our community that are less fortunate than us. The UAW and its members have led by example in terms of sharing our progress with the communities we reside in.It's important that we continue to support our communities so they know for themselves what kind of people the UAW and its membership are made up of and not buy into what some media outlets portray us as.
