Retirees - JOHN MC CANN, Chairman
Chapter Meetings - 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the Month
Can you believe that summer is almost over already? We have had many things that upset and tend to worry the retirees….gas and food costs going higher and higher, the housing market collapsing, no good paying jobs available, even banks in trouble. It seems like the whole economy is in the toilet. I don't have all the answers but I do know in order to have a good economy, you have to have good paying jobs. The middle class is being put out to pasture and the middle class has always paid the taxes to make this country strong and to enjoy a good economy.
Politically, we hear from the Republican candidate that we need an experienced President to run the country and to work with our allies. The present administration led by G.W. Bush has led us into a war that should not be and has alienated most of our allies. They know that we really should not be in Iraq, that we were wrong. They are tired of us trying to bully them into our way of thinking.
For eight years now, we have not had an energy policy other than drilling in Alaska. This makes no sense as we would not see any short term benefits. Maybe in five or ten years from now. Is that a good policy?Gas, food, housing, health care are just a few of what the experienced administration has not accomplished for us…and we want more of this?
On the other side of the coin…we have a young progressive candidate for the Democrats with some good progressive ideas. Working class tax cuts, renegotiate NAFATA and CAFTS, making them fair trade agreements, health care a priority for all Americans, mortgage credits for struggling families so they may keep their homes. This candidate sounds more promising to me.
The Chesaning Showboat Committee and Sugarland managers have been looking at a few dates to reschedule. As of 8-21-08, there has been no rescheduling date set. So, hang on to your ticket stubs. That will get you a new ticket when they find a date.Upcoming Events
