Tom had the worst statistical production of his career in 2001-2002, scoring just 3 goals and 5 points. Admittedly, Tom has said that his slow start was chalked up to his poor conditioning during the off-season, and he was getting hot before the end of the season. Usually comfortable opposite his linemate Carl D'Angelo, the two seemed unable to connect for most of the year. A graceful skater, Tommy uses his size ( weight ) to open up room for himself on the ice, creating scoring opportunities. Tommy is currently in the second year of a multi-year contract which runs until the 2005-2006 season or until he hits 300 pounds whichever comes first.
