2001-2002 should be considered somewhat of a disappointment for the hard shooting winger. He did make a career-high 15 games, but his point-per-game totals were the worst of his career, and the usual 'Mr. Clutch' had no GWG. With his longtime center and brother in the nets, Jim played with a variety of linemates and never seemed to get comfortable. Not a gifted skater, he creates his opportunities with good positioning and buries his chances when he gets them. Jim is a go-to guy in the playoffs, leading the team in goals, points and GWG, but the Sasquatch did not make the playoffs so he was unable to redeem himself. At 28 yrs. old, Jim is hitting his peak professionally and should have a comeback year. Look for trade rumors to swirl if he doesn't.
Career Highlights :
In a performance that earned him the games second star, Jim scored 2 goals, added 2 assists and was a +4 at the First Union Spectrum
A playoff stud, Jim leads the team in career playoff goals, points, points per game, SHG and GWG despite having played only 17 of the 24 games
Has only 6 career regular season penalty minutes in 54 games, but leads the league in penalties drawn
Strengths :
Works very hard to establish position in front of the net, and once there is extremely hard to move
From in close, nobody is more adept at getting a shot on net, regardless of his position ( i.e. standing, falling, lying down, getting mugged... )
A money player ( as in - 'doesn't have any' ), Jim plays some of his best hockey when the game is on the line
An underrated passer and stickhandler
Weaknesses :
Five seasons, four late or non-payments ( hey, he's getting better )
Street hockey games are more important to him
With only 6 career PIM, only John Gibson is a bigger wuss
