CLASSWORK/PROJECTS--40% of your grade
Classwork/Projects are assignments completed during class in the computer lab. The grade will be based on the following:
Due Date: All classwork will be assigned a due date. Make sure to pay careful attention to these. If you are not able to complete the classwork by the assigned due date, a date will be listed under “Last Day to Makeup” on the dryboard. It is YOUR responsibility to use Extra Help Days to complete your classwork by the date listed. If your work is not turned in by the assigned Extra Help Day, you will receive a zero.
Formatting: If you are given specifications for margins, fonts, and point size, style and arrangement of text, you will be graded on how well you followed that. If there are no specifications, then at a minimum, it is expected that you use the default margins.
Spelling: It is expected that you use the computer’s Spell Checker as well as the dictionaries available in class. You will be penalized one point for EVERY error I find.
Typing Errors: Please proofread your work! You will be graded on the accuracy of your typing. This includes the following:
Grammatical Errors: Again, please proofread! Common grammatical mistakes include: using the wrong form of to (too or two), there (their or they're), its or it's, and so on. A spell checker will not help with this. Take your draft paper to someone to check for you.
You will take several tests during this course. Some will be written and some will be taken completely on the computer. There will always be a list of material for you to study. Prepare well and don't forget to bring a pencil! (Ten points is deducted from test/quiz grade for not having a pencil.)
Computer Application II Binder: You are required to have a 1-inch three-ring binder at the beginning of this course. (You will be responsible not to lose this binder!) Throughout this course, you will be responsible for the upkeep of your binder. All handouts (course information, assignment calendars, study guides, graded classwork, homework, and quizzes/tests) need to be filed in the appropriate section of your binder. (Note: I do not supply handouts for those students who lose them!)
Assignment Notebook: It is important for you to fill-in your notebook everyday--even if there's no homework, a field trip, no school, or being absent.
Occasionally, homework will be assigned. Homework must be completed by the assigned due date. A grade of zero (0) will be given for no homework (see Londonderry Middle School’s 8th Grade Homework Policy).
PARTICIPATION--10% of your grade
A grade will be given on your participation during class. This includes discussing and answering questions as well as working together with fellow students.
Students start off the course with 100 points (a grade of an A). Whenever a student is unprepared, doesn't cleanup their work area, has an unexcused tardy, or not behaving appropriately during class, points will be deducted. I tell them that being prepared and learning how to behave appropriately are important for success in the business/real world.
Each student will receive four (4) Bathroom Passes for this course. Students who turn in unused Bathroom Passes, will receive one extra credit point for each unused pass they turn in toward their term grade.
