The following is what will be covered. Please note these activities may change.

Computer Ethics - Students will understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology. They will practice responsible use of technology systems, information and software. This will be covered through a PowerPoint presentation, worksheets, and case scenarios. A homework assignment will provide reinforcement. To wrap up the unit, students will be given a written test.

Chatting Safety - Students will understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to chatting safely whether they use a computer or cell phone. Activities include: visiting websites where they provide simulations of Internet and Chatting Safety as well as view a few short videos on Chatting Safety. To wrap up the unit, students will create a flyer on what they learned using Microsoft Publisher or create a Comic Strip about a Chatting Safety Fact.

Internet - In this unit, students will access a variety of worksheets from the teacher’s classroom web page. The worksheets cover a variety of Internet topics: Are You Ready for the Internet?, History of the Internet, Getting Online, Surfing the Net, Viruses and Firewalls, Warn Your Friends, Internet Safety, Password Please & Crack-Proof Passwords, C-Ya Snail Mail, Hello Email!, Chats and Videoconferencing. An Internet crossword puzzle will be given as a homework assignment to reinforce what they learned in class. A written test will conclude the unit.

Internet Project - Students work as the content coordinator for a local radio station. Much of their work involves scouting for information that can be used as between-music fillers, contests, news, and weather. They will use the Internet to complete the following activities: Locating the Weather Forecast, Current Movie Reviews, Events Happening on this Day In History, Finding Birthday’s for Today’s Date, Finding Horoscopes for Today’s Birthdays and an Internet Challenge about Gone with the Wind.

HTML - The basics of HTML will be taught through tutorials by having the students create a Pizzeria web page and an All About Me web page. The following is a partial list of what will be taught in HTML: Headings, bulleted lists, background color (or background pictures), horizontal rulers, inserting images, and hyperlinks (within a web page, to another web page within the same web site, linking to email). Homework will include a crossword puzzle to reinforce terminology.

Computer/Subject Integration - I will be working with each of your subject teacher’s to integrate computers/technology into their class assignments/projects.
