  CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Attention to families of students graduating this year:

Do you have a student (or are you a student) graduating from high school, college or graduate school this spring?  We want to make sure we honor you during our May 11, 2008 church service.  Please contact Rona Shirdan at faitharts@comcast.net and Judie Schultz at judie.schultz@verizon.net with the name of the school from which you are graduating, the degree you are receiving and your future plans.

Thank you and congratulations on your efforts!

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION -

Young children will still have the option of leaving the church service at 10:20am after the youth chat.  During hot days, we will have childcare in the air-conditioned Garrett Room.  Babysitting for infants and toddlers is also available from 9:45 to 11:15.

meets every Sunday at 9 a.m.

The Mission of the LPC youth group is to share our time, talents, and spirituality to ensure greater participation of youth in community life.  We strive to do our very "BEST" to live our life in the spirit of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  In doing so, we hope to improve our church, community and bring us all closer in our God.  Check out our upcoming events!

Ichthus, our youth group, has been busy, too. The young people have been enjoying providing extra snacks for coffee hour on the second Sunday of every month in order to raise money for their activities. We thank everyone who has donated to help them in this endeavor! The youth group also did the Children’s Chat and took a special collection for Souper Bowl Sunday, and raised $200 that will be used to feed the hungry in our own area. Each third Sunday the youth group enjoys a movie day or a game day, and so far we’ve watched Pirates of the Caribbean II and Finding Nemo. The third Sunday of March will be game day and we’re looking forward to sharing our video games and challenging each others’ skills. We’re having lunch together most Sunday afternoons, and enjoying getting to know each other and fellowshipping together. We hope to go on a retreat to Kirkwood one weekend in April. Our other big project is leading in worship (even preaching!) on Mother’s Day, May 13th. Everyone in the youth group is participating and looking forward to this very special youth Sunday. We’ve already started preparing!

What’s our seminarian doing?
Karen is back in seminary after about a six week break between semesters. This term she is continuing a class that helps seminarians process what they are learning in the churches they serve. There are 12 students in this class and they all help each other and share their joys and concerns as they learn together how to be more effective pastors. Then she will also be taking
a class called The Process of Aging. It’s a Christian Education elective that helps seminarians view the world and the church from the perspective of those who are 65 and older. Karen says those who have taken the course feel it’s one of the most helpful courses they had in seminary. There’s lots of reading and projects involved, but seems to be a very practical part of learning to minister to a growing segment of the church and the population at large. Your prayers for her in her studies and very busy schedule would be very much appreciated!

Children at Worship

Relax! Families with young children are important here! We are a church which understands that…
...it is hard for children to sit still for a long time.
...it is occasionally necessary to whisper instructions to help children learn worship etiquette.
...children are important members of the household of faith. They are welcome here!
...children retain what they…
Hear 10%
See 15%
See & Hear 20%
Discuss 40%
Experience 80%
Attempt to teach others 90%

...children who attend worship are more likely to become faithful church members as adults.

Youth Handbells

Come one, come all!  If you are a kindergartener or older and want to learn to play handbells, come join the Youth Handbell Choir.  We will be meeting Sunday mornings following worship for 1/2 hour in the Noel Room off the Sanctuary.  See Jean Miksch for more details.
