Kauai Trip

March 12-17, 2000

View from the lanai of our room at the Sheraton in Poipu
This is the garden pool which had lovely landscaping
and a waterfall.
One of the views from the front of the hotel where we
would sit and have our morning coffee.  Often we could
see whales breaching off in the distance.
Sign at gate of CJM Stables in Koloa, where we went for our
breakfast ride to a beach.
Carlos, the lighter colored horse was ridden by Linda
and Don rode Rex, who is beside Carlos.  This shot was
taken during our breakfast break.
This is the beach where we stopped for an hour or so
to have our breakfast.
Rusty, the Australian Cattle Dog, had accompanied us
on our ride and was pretty wiped out by the time we
returned to the stables.
One of the dancers we saw at the luau.  She has stones
in her hands which she used like castanets.
This woman appeared to us to be the most accomplished
dancer.  She had very expressive hands.
A local hula school was having a fundraiser at our luau.
They were making and selling fresh leis.  This young
woman was plaiting ti leaves.
We were blessed with amazingly clear weather when we
took our trip up the Waimea Canyon road.
View from the end of the road - top of the canyon.
The Na Pali coastline is what you see to your right.
An interesting plant that I wanted to remember.
Mynah birds were introduced a long time ago from
India.  They are very commonly seen.
If you look closely, you will see a bee inside the red flower.
Chickens and roosters are everywhere in Kauai.
We were told that they are protected by law.
View from Silver Falls Ranch in Kilauea, where
we went for our second trail ride.  We had a warm
dry day for our adventure with great visibility.
Sign at Silver Falls Ranch.    Truth in advertising.
Fresh coconut milk at Kilauea Neighborhood Farmers'
Market.  Very refreshing!
Commerce is brisk!
This young lady had a full afternoon of shopping.
Bellying up to the bar.
You just never know just who you'll meet at the Market!
