January 2000

1-05-00 - Hi everyone. I've just gotten back from my follow-up appointment with my surgeon. He thinks everything is going perfect. He's very happy with my weight loss. I've lost 16 lbs since I saw him December 1st and 42 lbs total so far. It's really so exciting. He is now trying to figure out why I still have this bad back pain which I did not have prior to surgery. He sent me for blood work and x-rays today after our appointment just to make sure that it is nothing surgery related just masking itself as back pain. Heck I even told him I'm considering going to a chiropractor to see if they can help. I was always very empathetic with individuals suffering from back pain, but you can never truly understand that kind of constant pain until you've experienced it for yourself. I now have a new appreciation for the fact that I had a healthy back up until now. He gave me two prescriptions to try to see if they help. I had a photo taken in the office so you can see my progress. So I'll post it and close for now. Tomorrow is my appointment with the nutritionist. I'll update more after that appointment. I expect I'll be moving on to a more "solid" diet after that appt. Presently I still struggle to get the needed protein amounts in, because - I know you've heard this from me before - I'm just not hungry yet. I hope I can keep this feeling of not being hungry forever, but I know that it will eventually return. (Hopefully not with a vengeance though). Until tomorrow....

1/10/00 - Now for the updates from the visit with the nutritionist.  Basically everything is progressing fine according to Michelle.  I have now moved on to the next "stage" of eating Eating After Gastric Bypass - Food List IIIt's still a fairly "soft" diet, but given that I'm still not ever hungry, this is fine.

As of this morning, my weight as dropped to 260.  I'm so pleased.  Maybe this exercise, no matter how much I dislike it, is really paying off.

I had two friends both have surgery last week, one had the laproscopic RNY by the same surgeon that I used and she returned home on Sunday just four days after surgery...I'm so happy she is on the road to her new life.  The other had an open procedure done by Dr. Sweet in Reading, and I spoke with her on Saturday and she is progressing well also.  I'm so happy for everyone that finally gets over the hurdles and is able to have the surgery.  I'm beginning to really believe that this has saved my life.

1/23/00 - I've been a little slow to make an entry, but I felt I'd better get something on here or you will all lose interest.  I was on a weight loss "stall" for a little while which was frustrating.  But as of this morning I have broken the plateau and dropped to 255.  I'm very pleased.  That is really the only good news to report for now.  Everything else is bad news.  My father had a heart attack on Thursday night and we spent the night in the ER until he was admitted with the HA, pneumonia and a blood clot in his lung.  Then subsequently yesterday his kidneys shut down and today he started dialysis.  So it's been a rough couple of days.  After dialysis though he seems to be 100% better.  So we'll see.  As for me and my back pain...I forgot to mention.....hip hip hooray....it's gone.  Been gone over a week.  The last meds the doctor gave me seem to have done the trick.  Flexoril and Celebrex.  The Celebrex is a drug like Motrin, but easy on the staple line, unlike Motrin.    Well, many days and nights at the hospital have left me exhausted, so I will close for now and head to bed.  Thanks for checking in on me.
